Song of Songs 7

Again, my Shulamite, twirl round again!
Twirl round again, let us see you!

Why, among rows of these dancers,
should you gaze at this Shulamite alone?

How lovely your steps in those sandals,
noble daughter,
the curve of your thighs,
how like jewels,
carved by the hand of an artist,
your navel the goblet limned by the young moon,
never drained of its wine,
your belly a pile of wheat
fringed with roses,
your breasts are two fawns,
the twins of a doe,
your neck is an ivory tower,
your eyes are the pools of Cheshbon
at the Bat-rabbim gate,
your nose is the tower of Lebanon
that looks towards Damascus,
your head crowns you like Carmel,
the thrums of your hair royal purple,
a king could get caught in those curls —

How much fairer and finer you are, Love,
than all other delights.

The poise of your bearing appears like a palm,
your breasts seem like clusters —
I said to myself, I will climb up that palm,
take hold of those bunches of dates —
and may your breasts be as clusters of grapes,
your breath scented with apricots,
your tongue sweet as fine wine —

smoothly it flows for my love,
stirring awake sleeping lips.

I am all my beloved’s —
his desire is only for me.

Come, my beloved, let’s go out to the fields,
pass the night in the henna,
set out early for the vineyards,
to see if the grapevines are flowering,
if the young buds are opening,
the pomegranates blooming;

there I will give you my love.

The mandrakes have yielded their scent,
and at our hideaways’ thresholds,
I’ve laid away for you, love,
all the sweetest delights,
old and new.
