The stuff is preground. Which is too bad, actually, because I would love to have the Vietnamese blend in whole bean form. Their coffee market is still developing, though, so I imagine once they realize the market for whole beans, you’ll start seeing it around…

Also, at the Vietnamese grocery, check for Longevity brand condensed milk! It’s a white can with a drawing of an old man with a long white beard (Sort of like…Pai Mei…actually…). The best condensed milk evar. Can’t make Vietnamese coffee without it.

Hmm. Learning new stuff all the time. Ok. I’m down with the grind. have to get the stuff though. This will require a trip to the Vietnamese grocery in Hamilton.

Hi Huw! The Vietnamese coffee filter is intended for use with a French press grind. So what you put in your Bodum, you can put in your cà phê phin. Vietnamese coffee is a little different than most coffee, though...instead of straight arabica like most coffee, it's made from a blend of four different coffee varietals. It's got this great chocolately smell and flavor. This is the stuff. You can also get the filter on that site. It is a delicate art, though. If you screw down the filter in the little cup too tight, the water takes forever to drip through and gets cold before hitting the grounds and leaves you with weak, watery coffee...and if you don't screw it down tight enough, the water drips through too fast and...leaves you with weak, watery coffee. Trial and error!

OK… that sent me on a quest for the coffee maker. Looks like it would totally rule at the office. I’m getting tired of the multiple ways they have of making goop at the office. (And they all think of themselves as coffee snobs, too.)

How fine of a grind do you use here?
